Amel Alyamani (she/her) serves as Communications Associate at the Surdna Foundation. She helps implement the Foundation’s communications strategies to amplify the work of grantee partners and shares content, reports, and lessons that advance Surdna’s social and racial justice mission. Amel also supports the engagement of the Andrus family and other key audiences through the Andrus Family Philanthropy Program.
Before joining Surdna in 2021, Amel worked with Momentum Communications Group, where she focused on media, client relations, and social and advertising strategy for nonprofit and mission-based organizations in NYC and across the U.S.
After studying communications and new media at the University of Georgia, Amel served as publicist for a hyper-local public relations firm in Atlanta, managing media relations, community engagement, and social media for nonprofit and small-business clients. Prior to that, Amel supported community information and feedback sessions with a consortium of transportation-focused stakeholders in Atlanta, including the Georgia Department of Transportation and local architecture firms.
Amel is passionate about how communications and creative placemaking play a role in community development, and she is dedicated to centering and uplifting marginalized voices. She is a member of The Communications Network and sits on the steering committee of ComNet NYC.
In her free time, Amel organizes shows for emerging artists through an Atlanta-based music and culture startup. You can usually find her biking or walking the streets of Brooklyn and engaging in her various and always rotating creative hobbies.
